Really? ASU professor says people can fall in love with objects

TEMPE, AZ - They say love can be a strange thing, and one Arizona State University professor is proving just how strange it can be.
A new study shows, for some people, true love does not have to involve another human, or even another living being.
ASU Business Marketing professor John Lastovicka says people can fall in love with inanimate objects, like their cars, bicycles, and even guns.
Lastovicka believes when normal people lack a number of close relationships with other people, they form strong emotional bonds with objects.
"As human beings, we are wired to take care of others, to love others. If folks don't have those opportunities, here is another option," Lastovicka said.
He studied hundreds of subjects over the past three years and recently published his report.
It might seem odd, but Lastovicka believes having the love for something is far better than nothing.
"Being lonely isn't good for your health. It can lead to depression, alcoholism, lots of other things that are far worse."
